Audrey and Don Wood often use ordinary people to model his or her characters. For example, Audrey, Don, and their son, Bruce are often the focal point of the main characters. In Heckedy Peg, Don modeled as the witch in the book.
Another example hidden within the Heckedy Peg is that the mother in the book is modeled after Audrey Wood.
Audrey and Don Wood's son, Bruce is the model for the boy character in the books: Tickle-Octopus, Quick as a Cricket, and King Bidgood's in the Bathtub. Within the book, King Bidgood's in the Bathtub, Bruce models the Page that is seen unpluging the bathtub.
Another author to text that I found interesting is found in The Napping House. The house illustrated in the book was modeled after Audrey and Don Wood's home.
